…That is the latest question we had for our internet guru. Her answer was yes ~ but the issue became what to write?! We aren’t really sure what you are interested in, but we do know the most asked question or comment we get is “How did you get started?” The answer is pretty easy, we saw a niche that wasn’t being filled and we decided to figure out how to fill it. Yes, there are more details on exactly how it happened but how it happened isn’t nearly as important as why it happened. We were two moms, who both needed to work and more importantly, both liked to work. And when we say like to work, we knew we wanted to work but work for ourselves. I think a lot of women get discouraged with their lives because motherhood is such an overwhelming task in and of itself. They think, how could I possibly take on something else? Patience is probably one of the most needed attributes when starting a business. Nelle & Lizzy did not start overnight. It took almost 2 years of research and planning before it came to fruition. While there are many other attributes that are important, it was patience that started Nelle & Lizzy….and a lot of sweat!
And to give you a little more insight into Nelle & Lizzy, we thought it would be fun to tell you a little bit about us (btw, the name Nelle & Lizzy came from our middle names, Martha Nelle and Page Elizabeth) . Read below, or you can watch our video: http://youtu.be/QfcNRhsrc4I .
Martha is a vegetarian, mother of two. She has parachuted out of an airplane and if she were to win the lottery she would buy an Airstream Trailer and travel the country. In school she was an art major and upon graduation jumped straight into the entrepreneurial world by starting a retail store called Earth Bones selling unique gifts in Fort Worth. She and her sister even started a second store in Hawaii!
I (Page) am a carbatarian (I know it is not an official “atarian” but it should be) and mother of three boys. I majored in geology at Vanderbilt and have not used my degree yet (much to my dad’s dismay). After college I had two jobs in the corporate world but felt the entrepreneurial bug bite so I started Putnam House where I use what I loved (art) and design holiday cards, invitations and birth announcements.
Martha and I in some ways could not be more polar opposites but she is the ying to my yang, the bread to my butter and the chocolate chip to my cookie (again, the carbatarian thing). But I think that is why this whole crazy thing works. We both have incredibly strong work ethics, we are passionate about why we do what we do – at work and at home, and we have a mutual respect and love for one another that is rare. We jokingly call each other our Sister Wife because we spend more time with each other than our husbands!
So get ready, we will begin blogging about things we think are interesting ~ from our N&L travels to the history of the fanny pack. We have no idea where this blogging will go but we are happy you will be with us. If there is anything you are interested in ~ please let us know!!
